Nearly a week ago South Korea celebrated Chuseok, a national holiday much like the American Thanksgiving. The consumerism conglomerates jumped on this money-making holiday long ago, a reality witnessed in the myriad gifts, packages, and Chuseok-related gifts available in stores prior to the actual Chuseok Sunday. There are many similarities between America and South Korea.
Considering that Thanksgiving is not a recognized holiday here, I am attempting to morph this holiday into a thanksgiving opportunity for me. Firstly, I am thankful for my five-day vacation in honor of Chuseok; that was a thoroughly appreciated reprieve from my teaching duties. Secondly, I am thankful for my husband and my sister-in-law, who is staying with us for the next several weeks. And despite the fact that aspects of my vacation were filled with disappointments, frustrations, and exhaustion, I am thankful for my Korean Chuseok experience.
These are all the reasons why I am thankful...
Excitement!
A human heart. <3
Games are awesome!
Look at all those beautiful Hanboks. Hanboks are the traditional Korean outfits, worn for Chuseok.
Look at that face.
Such elaborate outfits.
Check out his jump! This kid is usually jumping off the walls, so no one was surprised.
These students are what make my days so precious. I am so thankful.
Happy Chuseok.
Peace!
