Wintering Catch Up

The weeks have flown by since the first signs of winter.  Although we have had plenty of time to ourselves, the school days were filled with Christmas songs and Christmas plays, activities, tests, recitals, and vacations.  December was a whirlwind, needless to say.  Yet I have been entirely unmotivated to blog, which has been a shame.

In a nutshell, my preschool students were busy in December memorizing and performing their Christmas play in English.  They were adorable in their play "The Reindeer Go On Strike!" which I helped to rewrite for their language abilities.  We even were able to have Alex come and visit us one afternoon and watch our entire play and Christmas song and dance.  The kids LOVED him!

They were so attentive and were all over him with questions and comments.  We had a blast.  And even though he hung out with us about a month ago, my kids still ask me consistently when they will see Alex again.  It's adorable.

After the busyness of the Christmas performances our school took only a day off for Christmas, which Alex and I spent at home in front of our tree, courtesy of Alex's handiwork.  We gave each other a few simple gifts, enjoyed assorted tarts with our Stumptown coffee and listened to Christmas tunes.  Later that day Alison came over and we made a huge meal, played cards, and watched "It's a Wonderful Life" and "The Family Stone."  It was a strange Christmas without the normal celebratory activities, which made it a difficult day, but we all made the best of it.

The end of December brought a week-long vacation for us that allowed us to escape the frozen ground of Seoul (with a daily high of maybe 20 degrees and low of 1-5 degrees F), for the 90+ degree weather of southeast Asia.  But those are tales for another post...
